Mariachi Jalisco de Detroit is one of several groups that will perform at the Hispanic Heritage Fiesta in Imlay City on October 21.
Local residents are welcomed to attend a free event that celebrates and recognizes the contributions of people of Hispanic descent within our communities and economy. Hosted by Four County Community Foundation, the Hispanic Heritage Fiesta will take place on Saturday, October 21, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Eastern Michigan State Fairgrounds in Imlay City. There is no admission fee and the event is open to people of all ethnicities.
The Fiesta is intended to be a celebration and learning event where guests can both share their experiences and learn new traditions from others.
“Four County Community Foundation (4CCF) serves communities at the intersection of St. Clair, Lapeer, Oakland, and Macomb Counties. We pride ourselves on partnering with our communities so that together, we can make positive changes. We regularly partner with municipal governments, chambers of commerce, local school districts, non-profits, and economic development organizations, to strengthen and empower our communities. It is this mission of partnering that inspired 4CCF to welcome our Hispanic community to gather monthly to build out a network of Hispanics residents to be better connected,” said Kathy Dickens, the Foundation’s Executive Director.
“Our collaborative work has resulted in planning a Hispanic Heritage Fiesta, to recognize the history, culture, and economic contributions that Hispanics have made in our service area for many generations! We hope you join us at this fun and informative event.”
Guests can purchase food and other treats from food trucks and vendors; enjoy live music and dance performances and browse a display featuring the photos and stories of local Hispanic families and entrepreneurs. Activities for children will include pinata games and the reading of bilingual children’s books. All ages are invited to participate in a 3 on 3 soccer tournament and taco eating contest.
Workshops on various topics are also planned including traditional salsa-making and a Zumba demonstration.
A detailed schedule of events will be made available through Four County Community Foundation’s social media channels as the date approaches.
Local residents and business owners are invited to join 4CCF’s Hispanic Coalition.
“Together, we hope to engage in other events and programs that will empower and strengthen our communities,” Dickens said.
